It occurred to me on last years skiing holiday, that I my now be considered something of a senior skier.
I think the realisation came when I was tracking my skiing for the day and noticed a top speed in the mid 40mph area. I was determined to hit 50mph before the end of the day.. it might not sound very fast to any pro skiers out there, but it would have been a milestone for me!
After several runs, the best I could manage was 49.8mph and it was then that I decided I’d rather make 50 years old later in the year than 50 mph.
This got my thinking about how we all get a bit more sensible as we age even though we still love skiing, and I’ve found a great website which has everything you need to know about skiing over the age of 50.
It’s called SeniorsSkiing and although it’s primarily based towards an American audience, there is a great deal of information on there that can both educate and inspire, as well as a number of videos that demonstrate what is possible.
There is information about health, nutrition and all sorts of skiing aids for those getting on in years who still love to ski as well as articles about skiing history and worldwide skiing areas.
Well worth a browse, but keep an eye on the clock as you could get lost in there for longer than you intended! SeniorsSking.com
